Nebraska’s first casino will open its doors to customers for the first time on Saturday September 24th in Lincoln.

Pending regulatory approval which is expected to go through with no objections, a temporary casino will open at 10.30 am at the Lincoln Race Course Thoroughbred track. The temporary facility will have over 400 slot machines.

The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission will meet on Friday afternoon to discuss the final approval of a casino license for WarHorse Gaming Lincoln, the proprietor of the temporary facility.

WarHorse has converted a sports bar facility at the race track to accommodate 433 slot machines. This will remain in place until the planned $200 million casino and hotel complex is completed.

Second casino in the works

Meanwhile, construction will begin on a second casino, at Omaha’s Horseman’s Park. However, a temporary casino won’t be readyApril or May of next year.

Horsemen’s Park will be almost completely demolished to accommodate construction around it. This means that the temporary Omaha casino needs to be located in the infield of the racetrack.

Once opened, the two permanent casinos will feature slots and table games such as roulette and blackjack.

Casino gambling was approved by the Nebraska electorate in 2020 following a ballot measure proposing racetracks be allowed to open casinos on their property.
