Red Rock Resorts has revealed plans to shut down and demolish the Wild West Casino & Hotel located near to the Las Vegas Strip.
Staff offered jobs at Station Casinos properties

In an email sent to investors and employees, Red Rock Resorts spokesman Michael Britt said the casino would close on Wednesday at midnight. The email explained that all staff at the casino and hotel would be offered jobs at other properties owned by Station Casinos, a subsidiary of Red Rock Resorts.

The company has said that 20 acre plot where the Wild West currently stands will be combined with another adjoining 80 acre plot. Red Rock has yet to reveal what will be done with this land in the future. The company had previously planned to build an integrated resort on the site back in the late 2000s but this project was shelved.

The Wild West Casino is one of Vegas’ smaller casinos with just 164 slot machines and no table games.

Earlier this year, the company announced that it would demolish three properties in Southern Nevada —Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho and Fiesta Henderson. These casino closed in March 2020 but never reopened following the pandemic. It also revealed that it was acquiring a 128-acre site for $172 million.

Then in August, Red Rock Vice Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta said land purchases were “consistent with the strategy we’ve had for a long time.”

Neither Red Rock nor Station Casinos have revealed just what that long-term strategy involves though it certainly suggests that some major developments are in the works.

Now there is around 395 casinos in Nevada.
